Shouldn't Sell...

Food is one of the things that is extremely hard to sell on ebay.  First of all, you will need to get permits.  This is similar to what resteraunts have to do.  That's the first fee involved in selling food on ebay.  If you break the law and sell without a permit, you may have to pay fines.  Thats a chance you shouldn't take.

Another issue with selling food on eBay is the shipping.  If your food that you are selling must be refridgerated, you have to pay higher shipping costs.  Therefore, your customers must pay higher shipping cost.  At this point, mnost customers will go to their local grocery store, or in the case of selling baked goods, their bakery.

Advantages of "Buy it Now"

Buy it now is a way to sell your item on eBay. Instead of putting your item on auction, you set it up like an online business, and charge one particular price. An example of this could be if I decided to sell a camera. I put it on for $69.99 Buy it now. This means that at any time some one can buy this item. Another positive about Buy It Now is the fact that you can set a listing for "Good till canceled, but each month it will rollover. That means that each month you will have to pay another fee.  If something on a "good till canceled" listing hasnt sold for a couple of months, then you may want to consider lowering your price or even ending the "Buy it Now" and changing it to auction.  Then you will get sudden attention on that one item.

What Do I Sell?

So you need something to sell, but maybe you don't have much money.  A great solution is selling things you don't use anymore.  If you sell 5 old DVDs for $15, that is fifteen dollars that you didn't have before.  Keep on selling things around your house for a couple of months.  Then you may build up about $200 dollars or so in your paypal account.  This is enough money to start going to yard sales.  Read my yardsales post for imformation on this.

Getting Started on Ebay

Getting started isn't hard at all. The only thing you need is a paypal account, a credit card, and a bank account. You need the bank account so that you can back up your money on paypal and so that if you overcharge okay eBay and there is no money in your paypal account, you'll have money to pay eBay fees. Your credit card would be see for the same reason. To get an eBay account, you just to onto eBay's website and push the register button. From there, eBay will guide you through getting a new account.  Luckily, eBay is completely free and is extremely easy to start up.

Once you open your account, you may want to buy a couple cheap items from people so that they leave you feedback.  With a feedback higher than (0) you'll have more confident buyers.  Therefore, you will have more sales, and overall, you will make more money.

For more details on each subject, continue reading my blog.
